Pinsent Masons plans major downsizing of German operations

Following an internal evaluation of its operations, Pinsent Masons announced its intention to reduce its workforce in Germany. The firm established its German presence in 2012, launching its Munich office with seven partners specializing in complex transactions, corporate law, IT law, and dispute resolution – marking its first venture into continental Europe. It then expanded its German footprint by opening in Dusseldorf in 2016 and Frankfurt in 2019, recruiting talent from prominent firms including KPMG Law, Dechert, and Hogan Lovells.

According to the German publication Juve, the restructuring could affect 14 equity partners and their associated teams, along with additional staff members. This represents a substantial change for the firm’s German presence, which currently employs over 100 legal professionals, including 41 partners and legal directors distributed across three locations, according to their company website.

Juve also suggests that the firm may relocate to smaller premises in Frankfurt, with similar significant reductions planned for their Munich and Dusseldorf locations.

Notable recent work by the German team from Pinsent Masons includes representing investors in Wirecard-related damages claims and providing legal counsel to Techem Group, a German metering company, during its €6.7bn acquisition by TPG and GIC investors.
