Morgan Lewis continues Eu expansion with Alexander Ritter in Munich
US law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius is continuing its European expansion in global intellectual property capabilities, particularly in technology and life sciences patent disputes, with the hire of Alexander Ritter (pictured) in Munich from Baker McKenzie, where he most recently chaired the German patent litigation practice.
Ritter represents clients across a range of industries, including high tech, engineering, chemical, healthcare and medical device, and biotechnology. He counsels them on infringement proceedings before German and EU patent infringement courts and patent office oppositions. He also advises on IP-related corporate transactions.
“Our clients operate at the forefront of their industries and face extraordinary challenges in protecting their innovations, especially across borders,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Ritter’s arrival will have an immediate and significant impact for our clients intersecting the complexities of patent disputes in Germany, across Europe, and beyond.”
“Alex’s track record in handling standard essential patents disputes, patent infringement, and validity proceedings makes him a tremendous asset to our firm and enhances our deep talent bench in this space,” said Louis W. Beardell, Jr., leader of Morgan Lewis’s global IP practice. “His computer science background, combined with over a decade of experience in high-stakes patent litigation, will add exceptional value to our clients in even the most challenging IP disputes.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Alex Ritter to our Munich office as we continue to develop our German practice,” said Munich Office Managing Partner Dr. Florian Harder. “Alex’s skill set is complementary to our team on the ground in Munich and Frankfurt and will be invaluable to our clients in the technology, life sciences, and healthcare sectors.
Alex’s arrival follows significant additions to the firm’s global IP and patent litigation platform within the past six months including partners Tim Powell and Hiroshi Sheraton joining the firm in London in October and September, respectively, and Germany-based IP litigation partners Dr. Alexander Klett and Dr. Christoph Mikyska, who joined in Munich in July.
