Geradin Partners expands into Germany with senior appointments
Law firm Geradin Partners is continuing its international expansion with the launch of new offices in Berlin and Cologne, scheduled to open in September 2025. The move strengthens the firm’s presence in key European jurisdictions and brings its total legal and advisory staff to over 50, including 15 partners across seven offices in the EU and UK.
The expansion into Germany will be spearheaded by two high-profile antitrust lawyers: Thomas Höppner (PICTURED LEFT), previously at Hausfeld, and Thomas Funke (PICTURED RIGHT), who was international co-head of competition at Osborne Clarke before joining Geradin. Both arrive with their respective teams, adding significant expertise in digital markets regulation and private enforcement litigation.
Funke, who spent 16 years as a partner at Osborne Clarke, brings more than two decades of experience in cartel damages claims and complex investigations.
Höppner, who departs Hausfeld after a decade, is renowned for his litigation work involving tech giants such as Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, and Meta. His background includes roles at Hogan Lovells, legacy Olswang, and academic appointments in antitrust law.
The firm’s arrival in Germany comes amid contrasting trends in the local legal market. Goodwin Procter is exiting Frankfurt, cutting its real estate team, while Cleary Gottlieb is also set to wind down operations in the city. Meanwhile, other international players are investing, like Kirkland & Ellis and Greenberg Traurig.
