Greenberg Traurig opens second office in Munich with team from two firms

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig is opening a new office at Promenadeplatz 12 in Munich on February 1, 2025. This will be Greenberg Traurig’s second location in Germany and its 49th office globally.

The team fomr McDemott

Dr. Stephan Rau (PICTURED) is the Managing Partner of the Munich office and Chair of the European Health Care Practice. He joined Greenberg Traurig’s Corporate Practice Group in November 2024. Previously, he led the European Health Practice Group (M&A and Regulation) at McDermott Will & Emery. Rau advises private equity and strategic investors, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, as well as government institutions on private equity investments, M&A transactions, and licensing and reimbursement procedures. His focus areas include M&A transactions in the healthcare and life sciences sector, medical and healthcare law, and related compliance matters.

The team from Ehlers

Additionally, Dr. Christian Rybak will join Greenberg Traurig on February too as Partner and Chair of Health Care & Life Sciences Germany. He comes from Ehlers, Ehlers & Partner, a specialized medical law and life sciences law firm. Rybak advises national and international companies, physicians, professional organizations, authorities, and government organizations on all relevant aspects of business, medical, and life sciences law. His clients include renowned pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and food and cosmetics manufacturers. His specialties include market access, cost reimbursement, and health policy issues, as well as aspects of competition law, such as pharmaceutical advertising law, and strategic and regulatory legal advice.

He and his team will join the Public Law and Public Policy group, which also includes:

The ultimate team

With these additions, Greenberg Traurig establishes an integrated healthcare team in Germany with a total of 15 lawyers, significantly strengthening the global Health Care and Private Equity practice groups. Together with the existing teams, which include Partner Dr. Viola Bensinger and Partner Dr. Henrik Armah, the group comprises a total of five partners and ten associates, forming a specialized legal team for Health Care, Life Sciences, Regulation, Compliance, and Transactions in Germany.

The German Private Equity team, led by Berlin Managing Partner Dr. Peter Schorling and Dr. Henrik Armah, will grow to a total of six partners and twelve associates in Germany with this move.
