Oppenhoff launches Munich office after Hamburg exit

Oppenhoff is opening its third German office in Munich on May 1, 2026, marking a strategic pivot following the closure of its Hamburg location in 2024.

The Cologne-headquartered firm will launch with at least 20 lawyers, targeting growth to 30 professionals within the first year and approximately 50 in the medium term. Partner Jörn Kuhn (PICTURED) will lead the expansion.

The Munich office will initially focus on corporate law and M&A, with employment law, IT law, and tax practices to follow. The firm has identified aerospace & defense, insurance, and private equity as key target sectors, all of which have significant presence in the Bavarian capital.

Unlike the Hamburg venture, which struggled to achieve critical mass in a challenging market, Oppenhoff is taking a more aggressive approach with Munich, betting on substantial initial scale and the city’s strong concentration of clients in its core practice areas.

The new office will operate alongside the firm’s existing locations in Cologne and Frankfurt.
