Hogan Lovells advises Eco Stor on BESS project financing

Hogan Lovells has advised Eco Stor on the financing of a 300 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Förderstedt, south of Magdeburg. The transaction was structured without the use of public subsidies.

The project is being developed by Eco Power Three, a subsidiary of Eco Stor, and comprises three units with a total storage capacity of 714 MWh — sufficient to supply approximately 500,000 households with electricity for two hours. The infrastructure includes a 110 kV substation with transformers, 96 container stations for inverters and transformers, and 192 container stations equipped with lithium-ion batteries. Construction commenced in November 2025, with grid connection expected in the second half of 2027.

Legal teams

Hogan Lovells provided advice on all legal and financial aspects of the transaction, working in close cooperation with Eco Stor’s in-house legal team led by general counsel Ilona Kautz-Wieczorek.

The Hogan Lovells team was led by partner Carla Luh, with support from counsel Alexander Wandt and Stipe Bojanić, senior associate Kathy Chang, and associates Marzieh Rad and Fotios Erifopoulos. Senior counsel Dr. Florian-Alexander Wesche advised on infrastructure and regulatory matters, Ingmar Dörr handled tax-related issues, and Sebastian Oebels covered capital markets questions.
