Freshfields advises ZGD on DWS partnership extension until 2042

Freshfields has advised Zurich Gruppe Deutschland (ZGD) on extending its strategic partnership with DWS until 2042. The extension comes as the longstanding distribution partnership between Deutsche Bank and Zurich Group Germany is renewed early, until the end of 2042.

Deal details

The extension keeps the collaboration between ZGD and DWS in place over the long term. With both agreements running to 2042, DWS, Deutsche Bank and ZGD have committed to continuity, growth and the joint development of their offering for Deutsche Bank and Postbank retail clients. Freshfields’ advice focused on the collaboration between DWS and Zurich.

Strategic context

Both partnerships remain integrated into the advisory services of Deutsche Bank and Postbank. The partners also plan to strengthen their collaboration through investments in digital processes, products and services, and customer service. These investments are meant to give customers easier access to modern retirement planning and insurance solutions.

Advisory team

The Freshfields team was led by partner David Schwintowski (M&A and insurance, Munich/Singapore). He was supported by principal associate Theresa Kreft (Munich) and associate Laura Herbst (Frankfurt), both of Financial Services Regulatory.
