Dentons adds ex-MP Kaufmann to Germany energy group

Dentons has brought on Stefan Kaufmann (pictured) as of counsel in its Berlin office, adding to the firm’s German energy group. Kaufmann served as a member of the Bundestag for 13 years until March 2025, and from summer 2020 to August 2022 held the role of innovation commissioner for green hydrogen at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), where he contributed to the implementation of the German government’s National Hydrogen Strategy.

Areas of focus

In his new role, Kaufmann will advise clients on the decarbonisation of energy and industrial systems, with a particular focus on expanding production capacities for green hydrogen, establishing storage and transport infrastructure — including by ship, pipeline and rail — and deploying hydrogen technologies along the value chain.
