Tina Hinz succeeds Marc Merrill as general counsel and CCO of Uniper
The German energy group Uniper has promoted Tina Hinz (pictured) to General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, effective 1 June, succeeding Marc Merrill.
The appointment marks an internal succession for the Düsseldorf-based company, which has entrusted one of its long-standing legal executives with the leadership of the global legal and compliance function. Hinz joined Uniper in 2016 and has held several senior roles within the organization. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President Corporate & Commercial.
In a statement shared on LinkedIn following her appointment, Hinz said she was “truly honored” to take on the role at a time of significant transformation for both Uniper and the wider energy sector. She added that her focus will be on shaping a legal and compliance function capable of supporting business decisions, ensuring compliance in an increasingly complex regulatory environment and contributing to the company’s long-term value creation.
A key priority for Hinz will be developing a future-ready legal and compliance organization that supports both the company’s strategy and its ongoing reprivatization process.
Before joining Uniper, Hinz spent more than nine years at Linklaters, working across the firm’s Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and London offices. During her time at the international law firm, she advised on banking and capital markets matters as well as corporate and M&A transactions.
Hinz succeeds Marc Merrill, who had served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer since June 2023 after more than a decade with the company.
